An interesting DCI story

If you have a few minutes, this is worth a read...

All about Richard Pyle (of Pyle stops fame) and him getting seriously bent. Makes for informative reading.

Once you have read that then read the story about him getting bent seriously the second time.

I particularly found the bit about not taking "shallow" dives seriously interesting

Hehehe. I can think of nothing worse (apart from maybe diahorrea at the same time) as hanging on a line with shitloads of deco and sharks wondering if humans taste like chicken........

A good read, hopefully something I'll never experience first hand.

One thing I remember about Pyle's bend description is that he had a big "pop" in his back before it hit. The same thing happened to me when I got bent, straightened my arm, something in the joint popped and within a minute the symptoms started.

I took a knee hit and it was the same thing. I straightened my leg and "pop"

I've often wondered if it was a cause or a symptom. Like those heat packs, super-saturated saline thingies. You crack the disc and the energy is enough to trigger the chain reaction. Not a million miles apart.

It was that story (wrong word) from Richard Pyle that started me on doing deep stops.

I vaguely recall something about any exercise or impacting joints (or even climbing a boat ladder, carrying tanks etc) after a dive is a bad idea due to the fact the movement/impacting can create small areas of localised pressure differentials in the tissues of the joints that can lead to a DCI.

If my recollection is correct maybe its the same deal here. Ill check through my files.
