Question Accelerated Deco

I've just done the TDI adv Nitrox & deco courses, and I would like to accelerate my deco by using enriched mixes. I have a couple of questions:-

1. What deco programmes are you using? (I do not wish to be a guinea pig)
2. How do the programmes compare?
3. What do I need in terms of a 'palm top' to run them? (I don't fancy carting a laptop to dive sites)

Cheers, Paul

1, ProPlanner and ddplan
2, ProPlanner is a more "professional" product and I only use ddplan as a sanity check but they do give similar profiles.
3, Neither of the above run on a palm top but ProPlanner is built into my VR3. Very handy!

1. V Planner

2. No idea sorry....

3. V-palm runs on the Palm but is VPM, not VPM-B and has a poor reputation. I cannot get the Windows CE edition to run. Suunto Vytec, Apeks Quantum, Mares M1 RGBM to name but three accomodate gas switching and are much easier to carry than my Dell....

Are you sure? I thought it was a single mix computer. Nothing about multiple mixes on the Mares website http://www.mares.com/product.asp?cat=6&prod=136

If it *can* do gas switching then it's very well priced...

I use XS on my PC and the Palm version on my PDA. It's available here. Both are free but do feel free to pay the registration fee if you like them (as I wrote them).

They've been around 7 or 8 years. As I said the programs are free so I've no interest in whether anyone uses them or not.

Most deco software uses information freely available and the only thing that costs anything is the front end, so I tend to resent paying for something that shouldn't cost much... which was why I started the project.

Kent Diving £169.

I read it somewhere, but having looked again I think you are correct. Just as well I was thinking of buying one...... (Just got cheap Apeks off ebay so a Rizla paper away from a cock up...)

I use V-planner but....

I imagine DPlan is the most popular palm based deco tool.
Some people prefer Decoweenie.

Their websites explain their features.

Decoweenie is good... it should be, I wrote the code for the algorithm that Phi based it on

V-Planner but i tend to use that as back up to my Vytec which obviously works to a better profile.

I also like to add a 3 min at 3m stop to whatever i get to be extra safe + i feel a lot better.

I like no love deep stops but i also love very slow assents so i have to balance the two.

So planned deep stops covered by a very slow assent and an extra 3 min stop at 3m.

Thats me

Jplan is also available for the Palm & it's free! It's effectively DDPlan for the Palm. I use as an alternative to the dive plan mode on VR3.

See http://www.vectorfields.co.uk/apj/jplan/index.html
