Bent on the VR3?

Anyone else concerned on the VR3's tendency to seem to jump past the mid stops in a deco schedule? I know if you ascend slowly it takes this into account but I still think it jumps to shallower stops to quickly. I have had a couple of minor hits running on zero conservatism, and have since wound the safety up(like quite a few others I know)and put in minute stops every 3 metres above 21m and it seems to work, for me.

What are you doing? Doing what it says? Bung the safety up? Or possibly tables from V planner or similiar and VR3 for back up?

What about when things get deeper, 80m plus, are you still following it? Or just cut your own tables and follow them?

As the VR3 is based on Proplanner is there any news on updating the software?

Sorry about all the questions, just want to see what others are upto.

Cheers
John

Happy with VR3 deco

I run it with 20% safety, told by Jack Ingle that it's a bit aggressive at 0%. I follow it's deco profile, sometimes using the "man on the rope" for continious deco. Clear deco at 6m, then normally do 5min - 10min safety stop at between 3m - 5m depending on conditions. Had no problems so far.

[Edit] Pity much follow Jack's recommendation; safety at 20% - 30%, 5min safety stop for air dives & 10min for trimix.

I normally cut backup tables from Dive Plan mode on VR3 to use if it packs up, but will use VR3 as long as it's operational.

Told you'll have option of upgrading to VPM-B model next year.

From what I can say so far, on deep dives I use it with 10% but on shallow one without accelerated deco it give a lot of deco compared to a Vytec, so 0%

I run it on 0 safety and I add my own form of conservatism. Slow ascents adding mid range stops and clearing the unit at 6m and taking 5mins plus to get to the surface.

Works for this 15stone 5' 10" smoker but might not for you

Dived using VR3 profiles to max 102m

I have enough basic knowledge of deco not to need to ask the computer to add conservatism. The VR3 shows me the low M value and quickest time to the surface not what I have to actually do. That’s up to me

Have thus far not had either bends or twinges up to 80m on 0%. Further than that I'm inclined to be a bit nervous - it doesn't have the best record past those depths. Accepted wisdom is to use V-planner for the deep stops and let the VR3 hammer you on the shallow stops. It's boring hanging around waiting for it to clear, but I've always stuck with the 'longer on stops, less likely to get fizzy' mantra.

I have been looking at this computer and the debate around it. There seems to be a view that the deco model will change in the future - anyone know if this is true? Too skint to buy it at the minute but on the wish list. (Using V Planner at the minute)

Chris

PS Hi John - long time no see!! Kelly and I thinking of coming back next year so watch out!!

PS Hi John - long time no see!! Kelly and I thinking of coming back next year so watch out!!

There is some discusion on having VPM (V Planner) type deco available as a back to base upgrade in the future. March 05 has been mentioned but that is a rumer only. I am waiting to see what hapens before I send my units up for the V3 upgrade.

Cheers Mark - I love a good rumour.....

By the time I can afford it the VPM might be available. Watching with interest.
