Question Deco Regs - what do you use?

Just passed my Advanced Nitrox course and am looking to get a Reg set-up for deco use. What do people reckon to be the best high-O2 Regs around?

I went for Cyklons.

TX40s are excellent regs, (TX tho not ATX, as they has a smaller exhaust and some people don't like the flow of exhaust gas past the face),but I wanted a reg on my stages that could be used from either side - so I went for the Cyklon, and as I then wanted the same reg all round, to aid is changing them about if I has a problem, I went for cyklons all round.

In my opinion, they are an excellent reg.

I use Scubapro MkII first stage and R380 for second. They are cheap and simple yet realable. Never had a problem with them, also keeping in mind that you will use them in the shallows it does not need to be a top of the range!

No but on a typical ADV NX dive, you may well be doing 30 mins BT and another 30-60 mins deco, so I'd suggest it's worth making sure that they are comfortable.

I personally use a Oceanic Alpha 7 OXY, it's rated for 100% O2. I've had no problems with it using 60% - 80% Nitrox. However, I have been told that you can put high % O2 thru any reg as long as you get it serviced annually.

I have the same setup. They're good for up to 40% (I think - mine aren't green deco etc).

Apeks...

I use TX50's on DST's but I am also getting a TX40 on a DS4. I would recommend standard TX40/50 & DS4. Perfect regs for deco and backgas.

Regards,

Mark.

I cannot compare other regs but I use mine for 90min RT, and found that these regs are light and give a nice breath. Juz have you ever tried one ? Below is a typic dive I did this summer nearly every weekend.

60msw: 25mins 21%O2 Run Time= 25mins
Stop= 38msw: 1mins 21%O2 Run Time= 28mins
Stop= 27msw: 1mins 21%O2 Run Time= 30mins
Stop= 18msw: 1mins 21%O2 Run Time= 32mins
Stop= 15msw: 2mins 60%O2 Run Time= 35mins
Stop= 12msw: 4mins 60%O2 Run Time= 39mins
Stop= 9msw: 6mins 60%O2 Run Time= 45mins
Stop= 6msw: 32mins 60%O2 Run Time= 77mins

Also my Scubapro regs are out of the box with no service and been using it for a year now without any problems, max mix 65% they are due to service now!

NB mine are used in warm water and I am not sure if these regs are siutable for cold water.

On my OC rig my deep deco was an Alpher 7 and my rich deco was a TX50

both excelent regs. I would err on the side of the Apex purley because it has the +/ - setting to prevent free flows but from a breathing perspective there wasent much between them.
