Couple of quick thoughts.

The thermal difference between a membrane and a compressed neo. is huge. I had a mebrane witha weezle extream and got cold, I now have an O3 compressed and their base layer, my only consession to winter is to add a long sleeved cotton shirt. I wouldn't want it to flood though, I would be in big trouble.

I have pondered the Argon thing, sometimes I felt that it made a difference, other times I don't. The fact that I think like this kinda adds up to the fact that it doesn't really make any difference at all, and it is down to me feeling cold on some days and not on others.

I read somewhere (again I cant remember where, but Ill try) that one of the Navys did a study and decided no point using Argon and instead use air.

Ill try and find it.

some people were banging on to me about argon and how much of a difference it made, but i did not notice any difference, i am wondering if it really does make a difference or if its psycological, that because you should feel warmer you do?

I use it and I admit I don't feel any warmer. However comparing dives under the same conditions it takes longer before I get to that 'I don't want to be here' sort of cold. I suspect I am burning less energy to stay warm so the fuel lasts longer.

Not personally, but I know someone who had one. He used to feel the cold, and for him it makes a huge dffference, particularly combined with open drygloves, so that the warm air pocket can move completely around the body.

I would be keen to only use it for the low exertion deco phase, as this is the only time that I ever feel remotely cold...

He also learned the hard was not to wear it directly against the skin, when his thermal rucked up and left a chunk of his stomach in contact with the vest - it left quite a nasty burn...

I add, he's not a techie, so doesn't do long hangtimes, or have the same loading and therefore possible skin/other bend risk - he's just a lightweight!

see thats what makes me twitchy is the heat next to your skin, its drawing the blood away from where it should be, which in the water you are drawing loaded blood from the core to the skin, i personally think its a bad idea if any one else has differant ideas i would be grateful for sharing them
