Jdeco (Java Deco for Mobile Phones)

I've found this rather spiffing looking piece of software - JDeco. It runs on the Java MIDP within a mobile phone (if you have a new-ish one wot supports that kind of stuff).

It apparently does;
  • Intuitive user interface
  • Bühlmann ZHL16B algorithm with Erik Baker's gradient factors
  • Varying Permeability Model (VPM-B)
  • Gas mixing and topping calculations
  • Altitude dives
  • Repetitive dives
  • Single-depth (square profile) or multi-level dives
  • Allows user editable gas mixtures containing Helium, Oxygen, and Nitrogen
  • Metric or imperial units
  • One click variation of bottom times and depths (changes are customizable)
  • One click decogas loss calculations
  • Display of run time, stop time, or both
  • Option to lengthen gas switching deco stops to maximize O2 window
  • Estimates OC gas consumption (backgas and all deco gas)
  • Calculates CNS and OTU
It does seem to work on my phone very well (Sony-Ericsson W550i), but obviously it's nobbled until you register it (doesn't give you the whole story - some of the runtimes are purposely shown as ***). However, on the whole it looks like a great piece of portable inginuity, esp for £20. Great for calculating a backup table for bunging on wetnotes in the car park before a dive if you have to change plans / dive site due to weather etc..

Anyone have any feedback on it - is it any good? Have they used it? Would they recommend it? Steer Clear of it?

Cheers,

Mark.

been using this on my nokia 6630 for about 6 mths, what you want to do is compare the results with somone on vplanner or something and play with the gradient factors so they come out close.

i like it

That's what I was thinking. Plug the figures into my VR2, plug the figures into this, adjust the readings on this to be as near as dammit on my VR2 and we're cooking with gas, no?

Hi downloadad this last june( 2.2) it is now up to 2.5
its a good back up to have , you always have your phone on you
its also very handy if you turn up on a day boat only to find that the dive has been change, (me a dont take a laptop on a day boat and dont have a pda but always have the on me phone)
i did register the program,i sent him 20 euro in cash in post ,as soon as i emailed him to let him know that i have done this he sent me the unlocking code
this was long before he would have recived the cash, he is very good at getting back to you as well he will return your emil with in 2hrs( i have never wait any longer then that)
as said do play around with the GF + VPM until you get what you are happy with, you should know how much deco you would will do on a, will say 50M dive with *.* bottom/deco gas, then run other dives that you have done untill you are happy with the doco that it shows you .
i have used this to plan and do dives 50/60/ 70/m.(when laptop went down)
with the 2.5 you can see both doco run times they may not both be the same
no matter how much you play a round with GF or VPM so i will pick the run time that you are happy with ( me the longest one)
i do not say its a replacment for vplan which is in my opinion one of the best deco programs, i use this on my laptop ( and still have an old copy of zplan)
but jdeco is very handy to have with you on a boat
hope this is of some help to any one who wants to use the progarm
safe diving
dave

Scratch that.. I copied the file to the phones memory card and installed it from the phone. I had though you could do it all from the Puta!!

Will look though it now.
