I've got an OMS O2 reg - got it from Divers Warehouse, initially as a din pony reg, and then to give the the flexibility for when I get round to buying a stage.

Brilliant idea

That will wind someone up for sure saying you use o reg on high O2 without having it cleaned.

I'd advise against getting a lower performance reg than your main for deco. It's the end of the dive and you're tired, you don't want a harder breathe. You also don't want a deco reg going wrong leaving you a much longer deco on back gas or mid range gas.

Why?

I do nothing to my regs straight from the box.

Ideally DIN 300.

My personal recommendation would be to go for an Apeks ATX40 with a DST (rather than DS4) first stage. The DST has a very useful turret that lets you deploy and restow the hose from the second stage alot easier than a first stage with fixed ports.

If you're on a real budget, though, you might want to look at the Oceanic Alpha 2 Oxygen - it's available for about £180 all in and is a cracking little reg for the price. Like the Apeks, it's also cheap to service...

Smile Horses for courses -Regs

I was a bit baffled re the deco models now coming out as appart from the colour to assist in i.d and the internal grommets lubes etc being made of a more O2 compliant material there iappears to be practically no difference in the set up.
Just getting into deco/ nitrox so did quite a bit of genning up as I was (being a tight a*s ) concerned about getting another new set up past the houshold expences watchdog!
I am currently on APEKS and they do an O2 kit for any of there regs to take you up to 99% (about £10) Use your normal regs at a cost save, and stick some bright id material on it.
However
They still only give you up to 40% as a recommended even on the colourful deco sets which I suppose is all down to liability issues over rich mix.
Still its nice to know there marketing dept has spotted a new market without being totally commited

Bristol Channel Diving is doing mine give them a call re O2 ing your regs if your interested tel 0292 0464864 Neil (top bloke) tech will advice you

Scubapro Mk2+, ideally it should be O2 cleaned before use with >40% as there are some O rings that are not ideal with regards to O2 compatibility.
