| Fair point, Okeanos! One thing about the 5.7's, in addition to the fact that they're smaller, is that they're also only 207 bar, which means I'd rather go for the 7. My plan for the dive for which I'm trying to get the stage for is nothing particularly ambitious - I'm just after something to extend my bottom time a little further than the 12litre single I carry. So, I'll stop breathing the 12l when it's down to about 60ish bar (save a little for surface buoyancy etc), and go over to the stage. Once I've got about 160-180ish bar left in that, I'll send up the DSMB and head on up. I shouldn't have more than a couple of minutes deco on top of the safety stop to do, so that should be plenty. I gave up in the end and bought a 7l steel stage, which is what most people in my club seem to use. The buoyancy figures aren't actually as different from an ally cylinder as I was led to expect.
