Steve
I think the original poster uses similar, if my memory serves me correctly.

Each to their own really, with enough experience you get to know what gasses suit your type of diving, and your body.
As you say, each to their own. Deco gas choice has been done to death, many, many times. Never could work out why 75% became a choice for IANTD though, 80% I can just about understand, but 75%?

One friend of mine dives a twinset with air in the one cylinder, trimix in the other (not a huge amount of helium as he is a tight b@stard), then one cylinder of 60% for deco. He uses this configuration for dives up to 80 metres that we have done.
Again each to their own. Although I doubt Rob Parker would agree with it.

cheers,
Paul

l

IANTD always preferred 80%, but their 60m 21% tables said deco with AT LEAST 75%, don't forget nitrox blending could be a bit hit and miss on the higher pressures early on.... it was a dark art, if on a boat and you got 75% you couldn't just whip out the PDA or laptop and punch a few numbers to recalculate your deco, Proplanner only came out in 1993 ( I think ). You just unfurled your vinyl tables and read them and were within the % required..... then you went diving!

Ta, so a summary is that it is a compromise of a compromise

I knew there was another reason for preferring 100%.

cheers,
Paul

That's a fair enough comment, they didn't have deco starting at 9m (or 21m with 50%) so you didn't use higher PPO2's either so they were a compromise.

But then as you say deco gas choice has been done to death, and things have changed in 20yrs.

IANTD Air/50/75 Tables

You can download the IANTD acclerated deco tables for air/50%/75% from my website downloads page....

Downloads from Dive Aqaba - Jordan

I use them myself for training purposes and use other deco software for actual dive planning.

They are at the bottom of the page under tec stuff so scroll down.
