| I work on the logic that when you read a list, you work from the top down. However, working from the bottom ip - the same direction has a certain amount of logic to it as well. I guess it comes down to what you are used to. I know of people who write it from left to right.

| I had this very same discussion with an IANTD instructor trainer only two weeks ago and his opinion was it didn't really matter providing it was clear what the stops were. I think it really does depend on the individual although - as Zak pointed out, though, the accepted norm is to list them 'top down' (ie. shallowest first).

| I was taught (IANTD) that run times are bottom up. I also think that this is an accepted standard. |

| I was taught by an IANTD instructor horizontal left to tight. 55m 30 25 21 18 15 12 9 6 25 29 31 33 34 35 38 43 59 25 1 1 2 1 1 3 5 16 I use top to bottom deepest first as a find that easier. |

| I would run Top down - shallowest first, but other combinations can work well. Have seen it done sideways which was quite clear but would be more inclined to stick with top down. It makes little difference provided that YOU know where your stops are during the ascent. IANTD have just launched a flexible runtime mini-slate that is very good and which store well in a set of wetnotes. With wrist space being at a premium they are small enough to stow easily and being flexible they don't get in the way. | And just to be difficult, I do runtimes with the deepest at the top, but no stop times, just the time at which I leave each depth. And my slate is an old shampoo bottle with some masking tape on it. Does the job. I find most commercial slates too wide. Jason

| When writing out the slate I start at the top and work down, so the deepest stops are at the top of the slate. |
