v planner deco stops, help

i completed my trimix training this year and bought v planner while i save for a trimix computer, i have got to grips with most of it, but the deco steps in the configuration screen are confusing me.
i dont understand the 6m deep and 30 sec deep part of it. i have trawled through the help file until i am cross eyed but am still non the wiser.
whilst playing with the programme it some times gives stops of less than one minute.
can somebody put me out of my misery and explain how it works.

thanks
nick

have you selected each option & pressed F1 to get the pop-up help window? These explain the settings.

thanks, i didnt know about using the f1 button. that has explained a lot, but i am still confused as to the 13 second stop at 9 meters it gave for a 34m dive for 25 minutes on nx30.
i suppose it presumes you adhere 100 percent to the ascent rate and go off the run time.

On the config window you can set stop times from 1 min down to 1 second. If you select 1 sec you don't get this, you do if you select 1 min, it's just rounding up to the next whole minute.

If you look at the config you'll have chosen a value for the stop times (looks like 1 min for you) and a value for the stop size (looks like 3M). These are used to calculate the deco stops and it will round up to the nearest minute in terms of stop time and each stop will be 3M shallower based on your settings.

My understanding of the "deep" settings is that you can choose to double the depth between stops (to 6M) and/or halve the stop time (to 30 secs) for what is classed as the deep portion of the dive. This lets you tweak and shape the ascent profile.

It's hard to comment on one entry from the resulting profile without knowing the rest of the config. E.g. what ascent/descent rates are you using, what conservatism, what SI, etc.

...but yes, the stop depths and times do assume you follow the run time (and therefore the ascent rate). If you don't then the profile isn't valid

Hi,

The first stop will be rounded up to the next full minute boundary, because your bottom timer only reads in minutes. That first stop will be a sub minute on most plans. From there, your now in sync with the bottom timer and all stops times will be on a full minute boundaries for the rest of the ascent.

The 30 sec or 6m deeper stops, for deep dives with stops over 30m, it gives some flexibility to avoid the 1 min staircase stops that these dives can have in the initial stops.

Regards
