| The real reason is it looks good. |

As above, its bollocks but it looks great. One of our lot often inflates his dry suit with the auto dump shut and hangs on the bubble vertical. Then he goes to sleep Seems to be fine despite 180min+ dives in the 60-80m range. Anything toward horizontal is fine, perfectly flat is a little unstable as if you start to go up for any reason you have the air in the wrong place in the suit and wing to dump it. On a CCR flat is good because it keeps the work of breathing down on the counter-lungs, but apart from that its not a big deal. ATB Mark

| AFAIK originally when tables were developed for standard dress divers the stated stop depth was to be measured at 'chest depth'. Horizontal is easier as depth changes seem to be slower and therefore easier to control but they're not as easy as what I used to to i.e. take a turn of the shotline round my leg, close my eyes and try to drift off in my mind, sort of meditating On more than one occasion I did this upside down and would hang there like a big, fat, ugly bat. It wasn't as comfortable but the looks on the faces of other ascending divers was priceless! ![]()
