I met them in what use to be the Cavalier pub in Weymouth downstairs from the Legend that was The Steering Wheel, also bumped into Jethro there as well and he brought a round.

Anyway, I do most of my deco bang on horizontal and sleeping

in my scratcher during the surface interval

I was at Vobster a few weeks ago and overheard an instructor tell her students that you had to deco horizontally because that was how the tables were designed.

Unfortunately, she didn't seem to be an expert on table design or she might have shifted her fat arse off the kitting up table when I was getting in the water rather than treating it like a bench.

Horizontal is comfortable
Horizontal may be convenient
Horizontal is essential penetrating and diving at Wraysbury (unless you're penetrating up a chimney or down a tube I guess - you know what I mean anyway )

We off gas through our lungs. Do we really think that if our feet are 1 metre below us they are not getting the benefit of our off gassing?
I'm pretty sure we don't off gas through the pores in our skin but what do I know, I'm a diver not a medic

Sixy this cannot be true otherwise Shirley Eaton could not have died from skin suffocation in the film Goldfinger. Therefore we must all respire through our skin.

True, and I'm certainly not defending the argument that you need to be horizontal for off-gassing, becuase I don't believe it - I'm just arguing for the sake of it,

BUT

With regards to your statement above, you may offgass through your lungs, but the rate of offgassing is controlled by the pressure differential between the specific tissues and the ambient gas pressure. So, potentially, your head could have reached equilibrium and be "clean" from an offgassing perspective, whilst your feet were still supersaturated with inerts ***

Perhaps the solution is to do half your deco vertically head up, and the remaining half vertically feet up.

***please note I am aware this is bolox.

An Excellent idea .... will you ask Mr. L. to do the research.

I wonder if those tight rubber fins work against us too, holding in unnecessary inerts, may be we should remove them, to, as my Mum would say, "let your feet breathe" ......
