Actually Woz - I liked your idea of doing your deco at the start of the dive when you are nice and warm. I'd really like to find a way of making that one work

What would happen if you breathed pure O2 for ages on the surface and then did a deco dive? (notwithstanding the OxTox issues )

You need to find a way of sitting somewhere with -ve pressure. You have a minor problem with being able to breathe but don't let that stop you from trying.

Or the alternative is to skip breathe until you get a massive headache then take a few deep breaths.

Less of those pesky inerts, don't cha know.

Ok... so your figures show that decoplanner apparently doesn't object to what they did, however, mine shows that there is a huge benefit to decoing out at 50% at 6m, against losing deco gas and decoing on backgas.

In effect, if i have read (and understood) if you use decoplanner to run a lost gas scenario, on a mix dive, it doesn't tell you what you need to know. Which doesn't exactly instill confidence in decoplanner.

could we start using this model to build some rules of thumb around loss of the 50% bottle during the 21 to 6 phase and at the 6m stop?

One of the problems as I have set out is the helium. If you believe that spending time on a gas at a shallow depth means that you have to spend more time at the same depth to deco then act accordingly or accept that you are using a more aggressive 30/95 profile rather than the planned 30/85.

However, the biggest problem in your example is that you have the last stop at 6 metres box ticked. A lost deco gas plan uses the ascent and the associated ambient pressure reduction to drive the decompression. Without this you will incur penalties.

The programme runs algorithms which are not specific to decoplanner - they will act as you request.

You should have models James - have a look back at your tech 1 notes. Mind you - you may find them just after the 'planning a sufficent reserve' section
