Mark Eliat has given the book a right pasting in Diver this month. I think he has totally missed the point of the book.
Still. When his thigh bones snap cos of the necrosis in a couple of years we can all point and laugh at him.

He has indeed missed the point. But then, he does appear to have a rather large axe to grind himself - just read the random outpourings on his website and in his 'book' ocean gladiator. At least the pages were fairly absorbent.....
Any review of a book on deco theory that was allegedly read by the reviewer whilst in the pot himself really doesn't carry much weight with me.
Shame he chose to run down the book so publically, as people who don't realise will now not get a true idea of the book. It is after all more of a text book with explanations rather than one offering opinions, and as such I think it is rather good that it doesn't express any preferences. If I want random opinions on the 'best' deco, I'll go to the internet!![]()

Is this on-line anywhere? The search engine on the Divernet site is pitiful (as is most of the content)
Mark's book appears to be £18.85 on Amazon now:
Deco for Divers: Decompression Theory and…Amazon.co.uk: Mark Powell: Books
review is in current diver, so won't be online yet.
This is my last issue of diver on my current subscription, and I won't be renewing. I could get a days diving for the cost, and the content isn't worth the price. The only thing I use occasionally is the wreck tours, and they are all on line anyway...

And any review of a deco book that starts off with "while I was reading this in a pot" can be taken a little lightly, methinks![]()

I am reading this at the moment, and find it to be indispensable, however, having never done 120m air dives, or dived with the wrong gases on a 200m rebreather dive, can any say what Ellyatt's problem was with the book?
