Reading the review I get the feeling that Elyatt wanted the book to be prescriptive and come out in favour of particular deco models for particular circumstances.

Like Woz, I think he is missing the point of the book.

It seems to me that Mark is trying to educate about the whole field of deco theory as it currently stands, and how it got there, so that divers are in a better position to make informed choices.

Although I did find Ocean Gladiator quite a funny read, it did kind of show the guy for what he is. And to that end I don't think his comments will harm Mark's (Jones the dive) reputation.

My views of Deco for Divers are clear from my previous post.

Sounds to me that the guy's got an axe to grind (as said by others). I've not read his comments in Diver, but I have read Marks book.

I found it a very, very good read. It doesnt try to force feed you with 'one method of Deco is better that all the rest', IMHO it gives the reader a broad overview of Deco in terms of what it is, where its comes from, and what current schools of thought are and how the calculation and formulas work.

personally, I think I'd steer well clear of a book on Deco that came highly recommended by Mark Ellyat

For the benefit of those without Diver, roughly what did Ellyat have to say?

I have read the book and thought it was great. It may not be to your taste but not sure how you could object to it really? Befuddling.

He was expecting the book to make recommendations and give advice on strategies and the execution of deco.

For me the whole strength of the book is it's breadth and depth and it's absolute refusal to take sides.

Deco is so personal and everyone is different - so a book that enables people to make an informed choice from every piece of current thinking - totally up to date and gathered in one place is just what was needed IMHO

Perhaps Ellyat was hoping for some advice for his £25

I see. I agree with you - whatever deco you do you have to make your own mind up.

Of course the start of the book actually explains that this is a collection of research already carried out by others or current deco theory, but difficult to get hold of.

MP never said anything about it being new thinking or anything, just a collection of research for you to make your own mind up.

Obviously Mark E never read that bit.
