So why on earth do BSAC use Pro Planner as part of the ERD course if it is not readily avaliable Unless they supply you with a disk.

They use ProPlanner as they have permission from DeltaP to use it, and no other commercial dive planning software manufacturer would allow them to use there software for free.

But they arent allowed to give it away to students.........

At least this is what I was told when I did my BSAC MoD 1 and Proplanner is used to plan all the dives on the course which is great unless you have a Vision Inspiration and then the 2 algorithms are completely different when I questioned this no one could give me a straight answer.

In fact I still have the ProPlanner Disc sitting here from when I had a VR3...........

All the BSAC technical courses use proplanner as the 'demo' program, & for all the practical elements of the technical courses.
As you say, this is because Delta P gave them permission to use the program, & I also suspect that the fact that it is a 'proven' software is also relevent.

Unfortunately APD don't supply any planning software to mimick the Vision. So if you want to preplan, then you really only have the option of using proplanner (on the course).
I also strongly believe that if you are doing technical dives you should have a preplanned runtime, with the bailout options. If you are on a course, you should be able to demonstrate the abilitiy to dive to runtime (which is a skill many struggle to master).
Having seen the failure of divecomputers & regulators on technical dives, I think that it is important at this level to be able to plan dives properly & dive to runtime.

I noticed Proplanner on disc on Ebay at £123.

What! I bought the download kit for my VRx from Divelife for 120Ukp and besides the cable and Pin it had proplanner in dos with it. Seems better value for money......

You can download, for free, the VGM version of Proplanner..... VRx VGM downloads

From the small trial I have had with it it gets you out of the water quicker than VPlanner. However the same dive run on my VRx agrees very closly with VPlanner.....go figure.

So you can download and use for free the new VGM version for planning dives without needing to own a VRx?

Rather than Proplanner, why not try and get hold of ZPlanner?

It a GUI layer, written by Ross Hemmingway, over the ZPlan program. It looks like a very basic version of V-Planner but is a 16 compartment Buhlmann model.

Using Pyle stops it cuts tables that are very similar to the profiles generated by a VR£.
