    Hi

I would slow right down at the 6m to surface phase, maybe take 6 to 10 mins, then refuse to get on the boat until after 5 mins on the surface (not usually a problem unless you are last out), and then when on the boat get straight to a bench and sit for five mins before moving any kit or dekitting etc. I find that this will reduce any niggles, and reduce the stress on your system. Drink water as Mark says, eat a banana or other piece of fruit, before and after the dive.

I do think 10 m/min is pretty fast but I assume you are really only doing this for a few mtrs at a time between stops, so its by the by really. If on a no stop dive then there would be no harm in slowing down to 3m/min from 12 mtrs or so and then do a 6 min ascent from 6 mtrs.

There's something else going on; can you post some sample profiles? What's your level of fitness? How well hydrated are you? Body fat levels?

I'll see what profiles I can find - I don't have the VR3 download software but might have some off my suunto.

That must be it then Paul because i am also 45 but 5' 10'' and weigh 15 stone and I get tired running for the buss. I hardly ever feel/get bent and i do a lot more agressive dives than you do. (45-60mins @60m would be normal on a 10/90GF)

So your obviously too skinny and too fit

PS Ken will blame it on the VR3 now but I used two of those for years without any problems on zero safety setting.

The VR3 is a polished turd, but I suspect something in the profile that's causing the problems.

Yes, my mates also say it's because I don't drink enough (any) beer ! Perhaps I should revert to a kebab and 5 pints before I get in the water - seems to work for them

Either that or I need to get into the water with some aggressive divers so they can beat the crap out of me - at least I'll know why it hurts then

Seriousy Ken how many dives have you done on a VR3?

I di 3-400 trimix dives OC and CCR down to a little over 100m but mainly in the 50-80m 3hour run time bracket.

    I had two 2.1CXRs

    No unit failures no bends

Ill grant you I much prefer the GFs on my Shearwater to the Bhulman and Pyle stops on a VR3 but its hard to say they dont work when they kept this fat, smoking, borderline alcoholic safe and well for so long

If being a fat smoking alcoholic was the only factor

As per my original comment, 10m/min up to 6m sounds agressive but is so dependent on a bunch of other factors which have not been shared here.

If the OP could share a profile it would aid the discussion I am sure.

I'm at work so no dive computer here. I'll see what I have on my Suunto when I get home. I don't have anything from the VR3 as I don't have the download software.

Being rested, hydrated, not cold (ha!) and a slow ascent from 6m up makes a big difference to me.

Given your choice of gradient factors, I'd be surprised if you're running 10m/min all the way up to 6m though. On a 60m dive I'd expect the first stop to be kicking in around 30m-ish and then from there you're always going to be slower than 3m/min.

PS - Can't help on the What GirlFriend question though.

Seriously Mark, there is no way I'd waste my money on a dive computer without first having a lobotomy!

I don't personally know a single person who's been happy with the VR3 they've owned, but my issue more generally is with dive computers.

They're the lazy way out and you learn nothing from them. Get a computer, get deco software and play around to understand the relationships and rules. That's the best way to learn about deco.

Come on Ken, as provoking posts go you're being a bit lazy. At least take the trouble to back up your posts with one or two isolated cases as 'evidence' in addition to your boldly stated opinions.
