Computer based deco software

Was just registering the latest version of the deco software I use, and I wondered what other people use. So what computer based deco packages do people use for cutting their tables...

I tend to actually cut the tables on the VR3, then just check then using either Proplanner or DCAP (a palm based planner).

I find the VR3 a bit slow and cumbersome and a pain in the ass to run a set of tables, if you want: the plan, +depth, +time, -deco gas, bailout it's a bit laborious it's OK if it's the only tool available though. I got a great tool for my Palm Pilot called J-Plan, I met the author on a recent trip out and saw him using it. It's got all the bells and whistles and a good user interface - I use this "on the move" and V-Planner when at my PC.

V-Planner

I use V-Planner on my PC at home and on my PDA for "on boat" use.

Been working on my own software as a learning excercise. Not so much as to cut tables but to do simulations based on different mixes and bailout scenarios (CC->OC). The key thing for me is to be able to draw the (cave) dive profile and then get the PC to reverse the profile putting in stops as required. Stuart Morrison's XS is pretty good at this but doesn't do exactly what I wanted.

Ta!!!

I use the Palm DCAP Planner too... I wrote it!!!

I wrote it as a companion to XS which was originally a Buhlmann deco program. Recently I added the M11F6 (the DCAP model) alg alongside it but have been phasing Buhlmann out of the various new releases. Currently, XS only supports Buhlmann & M11F6 in OC diving, all the CC calcs are done on M11F6 only. The next release will remove Buhlmann & gradient factors entirely.

The next palm release will have a closed-circuit option.

Cheers,

Stuart

Proplanner for the what if's
The VR3 for on the boat
A couple sets of tables for the inwater oh shit moments

I don't bother making up multiple bailout slates any longer. The VR3 can get me out of most unplanned variations and the tables are there in case that breaks.
