| Did my 3rd and 4th twinset dive today at Stoney and am still trying to do shutdowns. On the second dive, we got to the 6m training platform and had discussed trying to feel what 'flat trim' was like, I would empty my wing and suit of air and just lie face down on the platform and try to shut down. I thought it was a good idea at the time, but it didn't quite go to plan. As soon as I'd lie down on the platform, my legs would start floating up, trying to invert me. So, with DO sat/pinning my legs down, and having my arm guided to the manifold (and managed to turn manifold off, yay! And got stopped before turning what I was breathing off!) I am now wondering what it must have looked like to passing divers? Underwater wrestling anyone? I think my legs are made of Balsa, coated in polystyrene!

| What a hilarious thread. Brilliant. My own minor contributions – my first night dive, in Loch Long, with a very experienced buddy who I had dragged out on a foul night. I was keen to look as professional as possible as we headed towards the reef, so I was sweeping my new C8 eLED across the sea bed, rather than in front of me, pointing out interesting clumps of weed or starfish, and all in all feeling rather grand and proper. Very surprised, then, to slam into the reef, dislodging and flooding me mask, cue much bubbles, swinging about of torch and much in the way of arm waving before order was restored. On another dive, having been advised to cure a steamed up mask problem by using Johnstone’s baby bath on the lenses, I was a little bit surprised to find toward the end of the dive that my mask had virtually completely filled up with rather pleasant foam. No more tears my ****! Another very patient buddy had to carefully point out to me on one of my first post qualification dives that the idea with a computer was to strap it on to your wrist on the other side of the cuff dump, after a fruitless and puzzling ten minutes of trying to get the Michelin man under the surface… And once, during a surface interval, I had been wrestling with the dilemma of getting out of the dry suit to have a bit of an old pee, and had decided to go ahead despite the inconvenience. I was ruminating out loud in front of a large, mainly female company about this inconvenience, and observed that things would be a lot simpler if I had a pish flap. There was, it has to be said, a rather astonished silence before I frantically tried to correct myself, shouting “ I mean a pee valve, a pee valve, not an, er um…” Cheers all! dive3 |

| only had a few but they are duseys. Jumped off the queen of the zenobia to dive the zen in cyprus and forgot to put my fins on. They had to be thrown to me but they sank alll the way to the bottom. I think a few divers had a fit seeing a diver without fins! Then there was the time at Capers when I had 6 ow students. I was up at 6am packing all the student stuff into the van. We got there nice and early and started setting up. Took all their kit out and watched them set up. Then I went to get my gear out..... Id packed gear for 6 students but none for me! The sad thing is I did it again about 2 weeks ago again with a huge group of students. At lest the dive masters had a good laugh. ![]() |

| Where do i start, there isn't room on here for all my fcuk ups so i'll just go for the ones last weekend... Kitted up and then realised still tied to boat and not wearing weight belt Forgot to wear a de timer Drank too much night before and spent all next day feeding the fish between dives I'll stop there. So who wants to dive with me then? Form an orderly queue. |
