Lightbulb The DiFF Grand Prix!!

H & I have come up with a pretty good idea..
Let us know what you think, if there's enough interest we'll see about setting it up..
Here it is..

The DiFF Grand Prix
===============

Minimum of 12 people - we go to 8 Acre Lake just outside Hull, they have (or did have the last time I was there) 4 seadoo scooters for hire at £4.00..
You can see what's coming can't you?

OK, so we have (based on 12 people) 3 heats of 4 people - the 3 winners go through to the Grand Final.
The 3 runners up have a race off, the winner goes through to the Grand Final.
1 of the winners accompanies the 3 racers so everyone is buddied.

In the meantime, the divers not racing act as underwater Marshalls to ensure nobody cheats, that the rules (yet to be decided) are adhered to, and to make sure everyone is nice and safe.

Winner of the Grand Final wins some kind of (yet to be decided) prize!

OK, there's a few vague bits in this, but we thought we judge the level of interest and take it from there.

All in all, we think it's a good idea, lots of fun, and lots of time underwater?

Any takers??

No ,you didn't come up with an idea you borrowed it from Bardo and Vobster Quay.

Lets hope all Differs who want to take part have a cert for the scooters or it may be very hard to hire them, from a legal point of view.

Why do you need a certificate to use a scooter?

Not to use one but to hire, much the same way dive centres want to see a dry suit cert before hiring, tis a sad reflection upon the litigious society we live in.

Same as chainsaws from hire shops, need to be certified to hire one but they can sell you one even if you have no prior experience.

Like I said at the beginning of the thread, I wanted to judge the level of interest first, if the numbers justified it then we'd see what was involved in it - this is just a sound out the numbers exercise initially and I don't want to put people off at this stage.
OK, if there is a licence issue, then we'll think of something else, obviously the next step is to speak with the dive site and see what they say.

Will keep everyone posted on this, but it's nice to see we've already had some interest!

This could be fun to watch so put me down for marshalling if you get the go ahead.
