| On BSAC Advanced nitrox course, during the classroom day it was explained that we have to deploy a DSMB with the instructor as a reference point and not ascend or descend more than 1m. Numpty turns to me and says 'DSMB??? I think I've done one of those once' Numpty is a signed up sports diver At the in water assessment on day 2 I was told to deploy my DSMB first in the group. That done I laid back to watch the show.............. numpty was next. Numpty spends about 5 mins sorting the bag out and attaching it to the reel, gets it inflated to about 50% full (at 18m) begins to ascend, continues to ascend, disappears from view. Completed an ascent with the bag from 18m in about 30 seconds. Nice. Luckily was 10 mins into the dive and on EAN36. Numptys second go on dive 2. Pretty much the same as dive one, but ascends 5 metres ish' during deployment then lets go of the reel - correct action but....... the reel and bag were never seen again - its Stoney cove, not the ocean. One of the mysteries of life. |

| Numpty x2 I've dived with plenty of numpties, the best was one who forgot to do his drysuit up, then when I asked about a buddy check got told to fcuk off, at which point I realised I had no weightbelt. It can happen to anyone at any time, and they dont need to be newbies either. |
