Richard mason: Thanks for that info. Yes I was serious about diving the Ship canal but wasn't expecting to see anything of real 'value'. However I never did not consider the heath risk, so No, I wont be going in. Thanks. Shame though, it does look really tranquil where you cross the viaduct on the M6.

Not dead yet: dont know where you mean exactly, but it already sounds to complex for a bit of a jolly. Thanks anyway.

Twinset and Wing: Sounds interesting, where is that water sports centre? does it have a website?

gobfish: dont mind at all, a bit of fun. Last year I went dining in Orkney, St Abbs, North and South Wales and Eygpt. I'm just sick of driving and flying so many miles. I've dived Capenwray to death. I only use it now to test out new gear.

I'm now considering moving so I can be near the sea. Living in Manchester and being a diver really sucks.

Johnno: I dont know whether U 534 has been chopped up yet. I do know that the No 10 pettion has failed to stop this. I cant really make my mind up if this is a good or bad thing. I suppose more people will get to look inside but it will effectly destroy her.

Thanks everyone.

I used to drive over the ship canal every day, solvay interox are on the side of it in warrington not far from the swingbridge on the A56. I wouldn't want to dive it seeing what goes into it.

doe anybody know if you can dive at the big lake youi can see from the M63 as was near sale/stretford?

Some members of my club have dived it - about 20m in places, but pitch black & silty (apparently) - cr*p dive was the phrase of the day I believe.

My club also uses it to test the RIBs

A few Ideas

I've dived quite a few 'peculiar' places around the North West! Preston Dock had to be the worst dive of my life, talk about 'pitch black' you couldn't see your hand when put next to your face. It was only 6 mtrs deep but was a pretty scary dive.
Devils Bridge makes for a good night dive especially in winter. If it's been raining you do suffer with the viz. Peat from the hills is washed downstream and turns the water brown. Keep a member of your party on the bridge whilst your diving as some idiots threw rocks at me last time. You can stroke the trout at night they seem to be transfixed in your torch beam.
A really good night dive can be had at Windermere opposite the Lakeside Hotel. You dive under the Ferries at night (8 mtrs max) and can find all kinds of treasure.I have a collection of 'Codd Bottles' and 'Clay Penny Pipes' out of here.PM me for more details.
You do need permission for both dives, more so for Windermere.
As for Liverpool Dock...That's where I did my try dive, were tough up North you know !

Hey Guy's,

I'm pretty certain I can get permission to dive this old reseviour.

As young school lad (17 years ago) I used to fish it and work at the farm off Castle Brook Lane

It used to feed an old bleach works and it's pretty big, very clean and has loads of fish including some very big Carp and Pike. Depth in the middle is around 14 meters.

It would preferable for me to dive it mid week as its popular fishing spot. I would have to get a day off work.

Here is a goggle map picture. Please let me know if you fancy joining me mid week in early April.
