Also there's a small dam at Millbrook near Stalybridge that was "ownerless" when I used to fish it... probably 7-8m max but water was always gin-clear and access/parking is really easy

Did a days work at Western Float, Birkenhead last September. Now this is a very quiet artificial dock offshoot thingie of the Mersey, no water movement at all - but still it was like diving in Bovril. Vis about 1 foot. Lots of crabs though!

Debdale's on the Gorton side of the Audenshaw Reservoirs, I dived it 23 years ago, got some swan mussels for my bitterlings to breed in.

I remember some blokes in my old club diving it in the 80s. They all got horrendous ear infections.

As young school lad (17 years ago) I used to fish it and work at the farm off Castle Brook Lane

It used to feed an old bleach works and it's pretty big, very clean and has loads of fish including some very big Carp and Pike. Depth in the middle is around 14 meters.

It would preferable for me to dive it mid week as its popular fishing spot. I would have to get a day off work.

Here is a goggle map picture. Please let me know if you fancy joining me mid week in early April.

Google Maps
Bloody hell, I used to live quite near there, flats on Baguley Crescent, Rhodes, just on the other side of the roundabout from the Three Arrows, between Middleton Rd and the bottom of Heywood Rd. Back then the then M66 finished at the roundabout, if you wanted to drive to A-u-L, Stockport etc, you had to drive down Victoria Avenue.

If you are looking for other horrible places to dive in that locale, there's Starmount Reservoir in Bury and Thieves Quarry on the moors between Bolton & Darwen; couldn't give you directions though, it was in 1980-81 and my mind is growing feeble(r), or even if they still exist but I think Thieves was near Horwich and was one of two small quarries close to the road which ran along the top of the hill. I've looked for them on Google Earth but without success.

Not much to see in either opf them - I did my three o/w snorkel dives which were a prerequisite to BSAC aqualung training in Thieves - f_cking scarey it was too.

Many years ago we (Warrington BSAC) used to dive Whitley Pit. It was a large, 14m deep bit of water out towards Lymm.
Can't help much more than that as memory fades with the years....
