Now This is interesting!!!

Hello, my names Tom, just joined the forum, and i've never done forums before, but iv'e heard many horrible things about them, although maybe it helps the truth get out there, i think it can be very damaging to people careers! but then i see this, diving is for fun... YES!!!! YES IT IS!!! and i think some people have lost this whole point to it all! anyway, so i now have a new dive charter boat, and im using this DIFF idea, without even knowing it! everyones pushing the horzons for deeper more extreme dives, and everyones forgetting about the wicked dives we still have a stones throw from the shore. weymouth has loads of great wrecks , drifts, scenic, and Hunting dives! (starting from 5 meters, going down to...well 120...but im not talking about them, im thinking about the 5-40 meter mark, even only the 30 meter mark!) and having a good day out with the 'boyz an gurlz!' i teach freediving in thailand during the winter months, and so many divers i talk to out there are terrified to dive over here, due to people thinking bad of them, or the fact that its deep and dark! i tell them, in the last week of october i had a dive, with a friend from japan, off the shore at chesil cove, she was not looking forward to her first british dive, but she came in the water with me, and was amazed! great vis (well about 10 meters...thats 20 if you include left to right) fish everywhere, lobsters, the most amazing underwater forest, that you just dont get in blue water! and this is why i come back to work in the uk!! so if anyones interested in some decent inshore, exciting dives, and having a great day out, please have a look at home | Diving, Outcast, New, Weymouth, Range | Outcast divin

Well said Tom, there is great diving to be had in 10 metres of water or less, and sometimes we forget that. I've just had a quick look at the website, are you going to be charter only, or are you likely to be doing any shuttle type dives, as I am sometimes down there looking for odds dives here and there in the more shallow stuff than a lot of the charter boats go to from there.

well, to be honest, im deciding on all this, shuttling is damaging the charter business, i think...a little bit.... but it is great for the divers, so im really torn! as i care about the charter fleet, but i also really want to get everyone in the water! i'm certainly going to be doing evening trips, locally, and i hope these will provide a happy medium! also during the week, i can sort something out! what do you think?? this year is going to be a year of experimentation for me, i've been around dive and angling charters since i was a 1 year old, and i've it all change and progress, so now i actually have a boat i can try a few things to see what helps everybody!! if that makes sence????

Personally, I would generally rather go on the boat for the day rather than a shuttle. It's much more relaxed. You get there early enough to put your own shot in where you want and there aren't time pressures if you want to do a longer dive.

However, at this time of year, it's handy to just be able to book a couple of you on a boat to do harbour stuff without worrying about getting enough people together. That's been an option for years in Portland/Weymouth, but it's not there at the moment.

Hi Tom,
Nice to see your attitude to getting people in the water - sounds great! but
please don't be to hard on the shuttle operators..... they just see things a little differently to yourself and like you, they are trying to deliver a service for the customers that use them. Horses for courses and all that.

yes your right about the bonus of having the day to the diving, its far more relaxed, and obviously i prefer taking that sort of trip myself too! im working on the comfort of the day alot on this new boat! but the shuttle is alot easier for somepeople to get to! i think this time of year, week days, i may do some afternoon dives or one dive days, for a cheaper price,it all depends if people are up for it! local dives, cost less in fuel and time, so i can make a dive to there a reasonable price!

hey man! of course! i never wanted to mean that! the shuttle service does have its bonus, mainly making diving more accessable! its just, some people cant compete with that! and im very loyal to the other skippers!

Hi and welcome to YD. Hope to see you soon either at sea or on Chesil Beach. You look like you have a nice set up and I like your web site.
