Who bags up from that sort of depth? The couple of minutes you'd take bagging up would add ages to you deco. Far more likely to use a deco station, or bag up from the first stop.

I totally agree, My SMB reel has 80m of line on it and thats plenty.

I use the 120m Pathfinder for line laying. And in that context it makes sense. If i were getting one reel that did both Id get a 100m+ version.

NOT because you might venture 100+ m from the shot (strangely I doubt if I ever made it past 50m unless i was scootering) but because if you have to cut the line once 30-40m away and bag off you still have enough line left to do this.

Id never bag off deeper than 60m

To understand why you need to try it sometime Its a giggle

Oh, it's a riot. I can only imagine how much more pleasurable it would be with a Pathfinder instead of a ratchet reel

"Who bags up from that sort of depth" try back up, it might well "add ages to your deco" but in the unfortunate event that I did nor make it back to the deco station as I would always normaly plan to do, and the tide is running I would bag up from depth to ensure the boat could follow or at least mark my bag, as I said back up. I thought you would understand that principle.

But even on an 80m dive first stop would be around 50m to 60m. Or am I missing something?

Sometimes circumstances overtake you. As I said to Jason not normaly but as a back up. I know very experienced divers having to bag up from depth and not from choice.

When I dived the Pangani last year the skipper wanted bags from the bottom. Not nice but not that big a deal - we worked as a team to bag up and allowed a minute or so at the bottom to do it.

Worst thing is having to wind up from that sort of depth - regardless of your reel it's hard to wind at the rate that a good deco profile would dicate in the 70 up to 50 metre range.
