Wing Kidney Dump Question

Just out of curiosity.....

Is there a specific reason why the kidney dump on your average Dir wing is on the front as opposed to the back?
It seems that having it on the back could be a more efficient place to dump air, however might it also allow more incursion of water that couldnt be purged from the wing easily?

The wing wraps around the tank - if the dump were on that side you'd find it pretty hard to reach.

Or is you wing back to front?

It work nicley on the outside as you can just slide you hand up the wing and will tend to naturaly find it.
Also if you loose the dump (breakage or whatever) it wont flood the wing and it will still hold gas.

Well OMS are a bit silly and have put all the dumps on the same side rather than the kidney dump on the opposote side where it should be.

Silly OMS.

Eh? How do you work that out? The wing wraps and the valve will be at the same height whether it's on the front or back.

Fair enough, its only if you are in trim/slightly head down its going to be a problem and the primary reason for that position will still be ease of access to the dump.

I'm afraid I still don't get it. If the dump is in the "conventional" position it's about 100mm from the bottom of the wing and about 70mm from its edge. If it's on the other side it's still the same distances from the edges, but on the other side.

Their positions are identical as far as their "hights" are concerned regardles of the diver's attitude (unless he / she rolls onto his / her side).

I fully accept that I might be talking out of my substantial ar$e, but I'd like to know why.
