The uber God thing is interesting though .... do you really think that's limited to DIR? Look back at recent threads an I would guess you'd think not....in fact it comes from all walks of life

As with any learned subject people get buoyed at certain points in the learning curve. When I first learned to ride, the canter was elusive to me....I could not get the horse to strike off and keep going in canter without falling back to trot.

Eventually after some lessons I cracked it and took great delight in telling my instructor. She laughed telling me I'd need to relearn how to walk trot and canter several times more. At the time I was very confused ..mainly because I didn't have a concept of how big the subject I was learning was but now that I have probably learned to walk trot and canter 3 or more times, I guess I am starting to see what she means, and I now appreicate I still have a lot more tuning to do.

We should forgive people that exuberence because sure as eggs is eggs we were there once ...just look at some recent threads from newly qualified open water students ..... and I still quite like the fact they are the way they are....having said that I don't go much on Fundamentalism

Mal

Funnily enough, I used to have the opposite problem - once the horse was into full gallop mode, I couldn't get the bloody thing to stop! Ahhhh, summer evenings out on a hack - good memories

As for the man who ate my hamster, here's his take on the issue... Click to listen

Hi Mal,

as always a very even handed post, you are of course right, exuberance is a fantastic thing but not when that exuberance involves trashing other agencies/styles/divers as so often happens, I'm fairly sure you didn't denigrate your equine instructors style once you had found your own

Bardo I feel possibly speaks with more insight than most as he has been in the dir world a while, and when you have post like this one from earlier today

That guy is just doing it wrong!!!!!!
then it's hardly surprising that some folk form the opinions they do.

I agree uber gods appear in all walks of life but dir always has and still does attract more than it's share IMVHO.

Safe diving,
Steve

Lol. I think he's finally hung up his speedos - all his RB80's were on e-bay the other day apparently. Admit it Jason - you only bought the Gavin so you can stand posing around the edge of the water at Vobster in your tight swim shorts with the scooter covering you modesty!

Are you sure it was a joke? if so then perhaps a smilie or 2 would let thick c*nts like me know that's the case.

Safe diving,
Steve

Hehe. I think I'd need the 'Magnum' model (the scooter - not the icecream) to cover up my modesty, mate...
