Mark's spot on - the team element of DIR is not about taking away the individual divers abilities. You all have to be able to carry out all the tasks in order to share what needs to be done or to step in to help out as necessary. If it really turns to poo you still need to be able to sort yourself out and get out safely.
You should be able to work out your deco, shoot a bag, handle the ascent, switch to your deco gas, etc, etc - but if you can share some of those tasks around the team and reduce the task loading then why not?
There is an important point of trust though - if you don't trust the other people in the team to be able to do the tasks then the whole thing falls apart...
