Sorry if this has been asked before, but I'd like to ask a few questions as I'm a bit confused by all the information and misinformation that surrounds DIR and the GUE training program. I'm thinking about trying some of the courses as I've heard some good reports (specifically the report that was recently posted on the forum). All in all, I don't like the sentiment that Do It Right implies, but I figure seeing things from a different point of view can't be bad!

I know the phliosophy is a set of rules, that through experience has been built up to improve the safety of those that dive by them. Who came up with them and how did they come up with them?

Why are there specifics on gear, such as no bungees? Why the particulars on stage and torch configuration?

How does the training system actually work? I see lots of talk about fundamentals, but what does that course actually allow you to do? Where can you go from there? What are the prerequisites?

Again, sorry if this has been answered before, but an interest has been sparked.
