Yes it would. you could not get GAS from any decent dive centre/gas supplier worth its salt without proper recognised qualifications to use the gas. Thats were I could see difficulties for a start.
However I have admitted that I sometimes do some ironing. well another confession. I am being forced to go to TESCOS. (Im a wimp !!)

WHY ?
Ah I see.
AFAIA there is no reason why you would need a cert card for a gas fill in the UK.
That said, I have a TDI AN&DP cert so if a gas monkey really wants to see a meaningless bit of plastic to feel happy then they can have that. Or they can have my DSAT gas blenders cert and I will do my own.![]()

Halcyon has been around for years - long before GUE. It was founded by Robert Carmichael and originally made equipment for yachts and boat owners. In the mid-90's George persuaded Rob to start making some dive kit - wings, backplates and RB's, which he did.
Around the same time, the WKPP were lamenting the lack of good kit, which the main manufacturers were unwilling to make. JJ started Extreme Exposure to make the kit in 1997; original focus was on lights, but there was no cross-over between Extreme and Halcyon.
Around 2001 or so, Extreme Exposure and Halcyon's dive business were merged and Jarrod became the CEO of the merged entity with Robert taking a back seat from day-to-day running of the business.
GUE was founded in 1998 to fill a gap in quality training. The only connection is that JJ is the head of both. GUE does not push Halcyon equipment. Halcyon does not push GUE training, with the exception of only selling the RB80 to those taking a GUE RB course.

I'm GUE Tech 2, Cave 2 and RB80. I've never needed any other form of qualification to get gas or be permitted to dive - although early on I did wonder if it would be an issue. Contrary to a statment earlier on the thread, BSAC also permitted me to cross over as have TDI/IANTD
As has been stated on the thread, GUE are HSE recognised in the UK and all GUE courses to date have CMAS 3* equivalency in the eyes of the HSE. If any dive store here or abroad questioned the validity of GUE cards then GUE HQ would happily answer questions but I've not heard or experienced any issues wherever in the world I have been.
With regard to the GUE/Halcyon relationship, others have answered the question but I would add something else. Halcyon is a business which makes a profit selling well designed and tested dive gear - not exclusively DIR compliant either. Whilst they wree not formed to promote each other, I'm not going to claim that they are separate entities at all - of course the strength of one assists the other in many ways, sponsorship, promotion, salaries which pay mortgages to those who promote the non profit making side of the business. GUE like most diving agencies makes a loss and the work that Jarrod does for the agency as well as the WKPP is voluntary at his own expense- likewise Casey on the part of the WKPP. Halcyon assist by investing some of the profits and, more importantly perhaps, employee time into both projects.
GUE divers are not required to use halcyon kit. I did up to Tech 1 without owning one single piece of Halcyon gear and never got a comment from anyone involved in the agency. My buddy did Tech 2 with Jarrod in an Agir wing and a salvo light - again not an issue. I use it now because I got over the juvenile 'I need to avoid it to be different even if it is better' phase and I couldn't give a stuff what people think about my gear - it keeps me alive in the water not them.
Happy New Year all![]()

Interested in DIR dive training/courses? - always happy to chat/answer questions via PM or email
At the risk of splitting hairs I do not think you need a cert card just that it might be helpful because it cuts out the inevitable bollocks.
So we are worried about all the droves of DIR divers that struggle to get gas fills with their GUE cert cards. Bless 'em, it must be awful.
