I think you misunderstood me. I am not talking about having completed a BSAC trimix course and being asked to pay for the c-card. (though, AFAIK, the BSAC mixed gas courses are only available through commercial operators, hence one would be paying course fees. I could be wrong about this, though)

I have paid for trimix training with GUE, have passed Tech 1 and hold a GUE Tech 1 c-card. If I want to be allowed to dive trimix "officially" on a BSAC Branch dive on the strength of this GUE ticket, I am supposed to "register" this qualification with the HQ and pay the BSAC money. The BSAC did not provide any of my trimix training, nor a c-card, but want money from me before "allowing" me to use it (I believe I might get a sticky label to go in my QRB, though) It would be the same if I wanted to use a TDI, IANTD or PSA trimix ticket on a BSAC Branch dive.

Iain
OK..got it, sorry, must have read it wrong. BSAC do train all courses through branch, inc the updated tech stuff...deco procs, mixed gas etc

If this is right then it has changed over the past couple of years.
I registered a TDI rebreather cert and an IANTD trimix cert with BSAC. There was no charge, and yes I did receive a sticker for my logbook.

Cheers, John

At present the only agencies that BSAC will allow you to register a qualification are: IANTD, TDI, ANDI, PADI, DSAT, & PSAI. The only cost involved is a stamped self addressed envelope.

Recognised Technical Training Agencies & Courses. - BSAC

To register a GUE course would require the course to be reviewed by the Technical Chief Instructor and now that Jack Ingle appears to be out of the equation I wouldn't see there being an issue.

cheers,
Paul

Ahem...it appears I was talking shite. It happens. Can't work out why I thought there was a registration fee unless the situation was different several years ago when I decided not to bother registering (though that had as much to do with the ban on O2 deco that was then in force)

Back in my box...

Scan your cards / certs and email to BSAC and you don't even have to pay for the stamped envelope

Cheers, John

Don't mis-understand me, I happen to agree with most of your sentiments. I'm just being picky, and to that end:

From memory, the stamped self addressed envelope is for BSAC to send out your QRB sticker.

cheers,
Paul
