The Halcyon Approach: Why We Dive

This has a history of the Halcyon brand.

It went DIR, Halcyon then GUE.

GUE was formed because there wasn't a way of training people (other than the old school boy method) to dive DIR.

Halcyon was formed as the WKPP didn't have anything to dive with (at the time).

Equivalency is a little hard

Fundies Rec/Tech pass - PADI Nitrox/BSAC Nitrox - You need an OW ticket to take Fundies.

Tech 1 - Single deco trimix (18/45) to 48m - Depth equivalent to AN&DP, trimix to TDI Normoxic but only one deco gas on Tech 1, TDI Trimix is 2 deco gases.

Tech 2 - 3 bottles to 70m, depth between TDI Normoxic and Advanced Trimix.

Cave I won't even try as I am not cave qualified.

If you don't know what someone is qualified for/with, look at the GUE website. The newer cards have the gases and depths authorised on them.

HSE is Health and Safety Executive

There is no BSAC recognition of GUE as GUE do not have equivalency of other agencies tickets. You have to start at the bottom and move through the qualifications.

Don't know what RSTC / EUF are, sorry.

In relation to recognition of courses I was thinking that if someone turned up to their local dive centre and produced a GUE qualification Card where would you find the equivalency etc. Who would recognise the qualification......

For what? If its to buy gas then that is stated clearly on the card. There is no legal requirement for qualification anyway

Don't think so. It has taken long enough to agree equivalence with PADI with the SALT. Why would they? And what would be the point?

this type of question gets asked all the time - and a large proportion of the time it is to cause a ruck. So please forgive those who give short sharp answers - to replies like "So the CEO for Halcyon who is also the CEO for GUE started GUE to help sell more of his product !?" - as it simply looks like you are out for a ruck and to be honest people get tired of rucks.

if you are genuinely interested then please continue to ask away and come along to a 'DIR' taster session - meet people, try kit and have a laugh.

if you are not - then that is fine too - just dont rub people up the wrong way .
