GUE / DIR ?

For those who dont know rab teaches through a comercial hse school

Which explains why all the instructors use twins. I was puzzled by that.

The altruism is an interesting thing. I am totally convinced that when the founders of PADI started they had very similar ideals .... to improve the quality of Scuba Diving instruction to increase safety and reduce environmental impacts. I think they expanded, got "suits" involved and probably loss sight of their original aims.

Because GUE (certainly the public face) seems to centre very much around JJ then any question of this type actually questions his integrity. I have been fortunate enough to have a couple of conversations with him (albeit briefer than I'd like) and many longer conversations with Richard Lundgren about GUE, it's aims and a whole host of other things.

The ability to discuss this with the men making the decisions about stuff is quite refreshing and gives them the opportunity to explain their rationale for their approaches to things. I would doubt anyone spending much time with them would question their integrity for long .... they really do seem to be driven by the altruistic ambition. I am not sure whether it was mentioned in the article on DIRx but JJ once said (I paraphrase) "GUE is a not for profit organisation and it does the not-for-profit bit very well"

Quite uniquely you can take training directly from these guys too.....how many of the higher echelons of other organisations can boast they are still actively teaching at all levels and still have time to pursue their own non-training diving projects?

First of all: THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING IN BUSINESS AND MAKING MONEY especially FROM SOMETHING YOU LOVE DOING!

Wether JJ is a decent man or not I dont know him and have never met him but from the titbits I have read here I think I would love to have a chat. Im a BSAC man born and bred (thats how I feel) however I dont believe that BSAC PADI TDI GUE whoever have all the answers, I have been diving too long to believe that.
When I first started diving however it was an easy position to take having only trained with one agency its always easier to have to remember one prayer book.

The Head of TDI UK still trains people !

The head of RABs Household(me) still has to do ironing !

so in essance then are you saying gue/dir is no different from well taught padi / bsac , or am i picking it up wrongly. just when i thought i was starting to understand things.

Depends who is teaching the other course

GUE have a specific set of standards for equipment and procedures. This means that you get taught the same procedures and with the same required standard whichever GUE instructor is teaching. The standards required to pass a GUE course are higher than the standards required for passing most other courses.*

while i certainly wouldnt argue with the above quote , and the point made about who is instructing ,,,,
it does sorta boil back to an earlier point , about the whole standardisation thing , but , the other point it raises then must be , i sit too easy to pass ow padi , or od bsac , just thinking outloud , about learning , un learning and relearning what will have become ''muscle memory skills''.
knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit
wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.

if you made it a weekend thing it might be interesting to see if many of the locals , north and south , would be interested in a kinda splash course , lecture / demonstration , thingy ,,, just an idea .
