Smile New Forum Moderator

All,

I'm happy to announce that Andy Carroll ('And', formerly 'Wetlettuce') has been made DIR Forum Moderator.

As you'll be aware, Andy's put a lot of work into getting the DIR section going and keeping it 'dive-centric'; his 'DIR FAQs' thread has been a wealth of resource to everyone here and has helped prevent some of the usual (and tedious) anti-DIR rants and rucks seen on other boards.

Given some of the history of 'DIR' as a concept and dive ethos, it has its detractors - I've been guilty myself of same -; nonetheless, it has a growing dive/user-base and we needed someone to take care of business on that front.

The first of the YD DIR Team gigs is in the offing and has attracted the right level of both current DIR players, GUE involvement and YD'ers wanting to 'try-the-dive', so it makes sense that we allocate a moderator to this space.

I'm sure you'll give Andy your support.

Cheers,

Hi

Thanks for the support. I don't expect to have to do much, as the DIR forum has been working well for a while now, particularly in regard to the DIR meet at Stoney on 4th and 5th December, which I think is a great opportunity to meet and greet many of the DIR divers on the forum, and some very accomplished divers at that.

I prefer free speech and respect everyones right to have an opinion, as long as it doesn't turn into a 'pounding one's chest' type affair. DIR has its controversies, and so heated debate is sometimes to be expected, and I won't be trying to curtail that at all. Just so you know.

Andy

If I could name one person that shouldnt be a moderator it would be And(y), he has never moderated anything.
Seriously, well done mate, I know you like a bit of free speech so I cant think of anyone more qualified to do the hard work of trying to moderate what can sometimes be the most volatile of sub-sites.
So what's the definition of a DIR moderated sub-site, agree with me or bugger off?

Best wishes
Matt

Well done And.

I agree that the DIR forum is currently running well, lets hope it continues and you don't have much to do.

Although I am not DIR I do agree with many of it's ideas and I think the DIR area is a good way for people to pick up information about DIR even if they don't become 100% DIR.

Just to reiterate what Mr T. (god help me) has said - Andy has shown a lot of dedication and patience in building what I think can become a great resource. While we recognise that not everyone buys into the DIR philosophy / kit configuration, this forum is for those who either already DO follow DIR, or are interested in DIR, or have genuine questions about DIR practices / kit configuration / courses etc.

Andy among others have helped answer many questions as well as contribute superb trip / course reports. Lets keep this a great forum for those interested in DIR and leave the trolls at the door!

Well deserved Andy - here's your stick! Lets hope you don't need it too much
