Hi, i use a weightbelt and a easily removable 4kg moulded lead weight attached to my twin by sliding it over the two bolt ends that stick out of the steel bands and spinning on a couple of nuts finger tight. Seconds to take off and put on.

Regards

Ross

I have a 5mm Wozplate, and so in Fresh water I don't need a weightbelt

In salt I add on 3kg. (I'm a lardy bugger ok). Ideally, I would put all this on the set itself, but the set is heavy enough as it is.

Laters,
Janos

PS - When diving on the rib, I normally clip the set off, hand up my weightbelt, and then get out of my kit and into the boat. I then haul the twins in myself, as otherwise no one would let me come on the boat. (Well they would but youknow what I mean...)

With full winter kit in fresh water, I require:
1 ss plate (6lb)
1 Pro 6 torch (3lbish)
1 8lb V weight. Thats 17lb!
Only the torch is dumpable. I'd suggest it's probably best to avoid belts if you can as it nice to keep the waist clutter free. As far as weight goes, you need the same amount to sink no matter where you put it..........

Recent weight check

Hi Chris

I just read your reply to Andy and was suprised at how much you're using in fresh water, are you refering to when you're diving your twin or your singles rig?

The reason that I ask is that up until recently I dived with only a Pro 14 (6lbs in the water) and have done weight checks down to 20bar with my twinset, this of course is in fresh water.

Now that I've sold the 14, I've lost that weight and so replaced it with a tailweight (also to help with my head heavy problem, which by the way you'll be pleased to know I think I'm getting a handle on) I'll also be diving the 9amp Barry Miller light which doesn't really weigh much dry so don't expect a lot in the water... so a new weight check is in order very soon.

So based on my experience I wondered just which rig you were refering to.

Dave

p.s. Do you have any plans for any decent diving early in the new year?

Hi

Sorry, haven't read this until now.

I used a shot waistbelt originally and other variations depending on how it all felt and trimming the thing out. I wouldn't worry about whether you use more or less weight than anyone else, as everyone is different and undersuits make a massive difference to weighting.

I've settled now on an 8lb vweight and 5lb tailweight with an Aluminium backplate for freshwater. I only have a Helios 13.5 canister so that isn't very heavy and I use a 400G undersuit. I am probably still slightly overweighted as I have taken the twins down to 10 bar but I have also tried it with 3 full stage bottles without needing to fully inflate my 40lb wing so I like it. To alter it for saltwater I just use a SS backplate with the same weighting which makes it very easy to manage and I don't need to remember a different config. I just always take my SS backplate and Ali backplate in my kit box.

It seems to be very common to overweight yourself when you first get twins and originally I had 6kg weightbelt with my twinset and an SS plate with a much thinner undersuit, well overweighted. Using a belt is not too bad but you need to be careful to ensure you don't trap the drysuit material preventing you doing valve drills. Perfectly manageable though if the weight of the set is an issue, and I imagine diving off a rib it can be. Depends on the guys you are diving with and how willing you all are to help with the lifting.

Andy
