Halcyon 18w HID - new reflector and cowling... Popped along to the Halcyon website this evening... http://www.halcyon.net/ ...and was surprised to see an announcement on the site that, effective immediately, the Halcyon 18w HID light is to feature a new longer cowling and an 'ultrabright' reflector. If you look very closely at the image, I also notice that Halcyon have added 'strain relief' to both ends of the umbilical cord. Now call me old fashioned but am I the only one that is a bit surprised how similar these changes are to some of the improvements that a certain celebrated designer of 21w HID units had incorporated into his light units? Follow the thread 'Proper Torch' elsewhere and you'll know who I'm talking about... ;-) Of course I'm sure any similarities are purely coincidental... Last edited by Bardo : 27-12-04 at 09:39 PM.

Hi Halcyons lights have been like that a while, I saw them in November and the 'improvements' were at DEMA I believe. It just takes a while to get the updates on the website. Don't see the point of the strain reliefs, they'll just get clogged with shite and do more damage than good. Andy

So it would seem that as a trade off, this one makes sense. Oh and Bardo, quit being a tart, you know as well as I do that barry had those changes in the pipeline before he left. Of course, some might question the choice of materials that a certain established light maker has made in their enw watertight fittings <angelic look>

The Salvo light I've just bought doesn't have the strain reliefs shown in the pictures on Barrys site, they are just big f*ck off silver glands without the heat shrink as it's not required for these beasts... To counter the failing umbilical cable problem, Barry has used "Robotic Cable" which apparantly is designed to bend repeatedly without issue. Also the 21w bulb is much more robust than the 18w so hopefully all bases are covered.. he say's crossing fingers and toes..
