At shallow depths, the thing will breathe just as well as a high performance reg. Deeper, we're on helium, so the work of breathing much lower anyway.

The stress from an OOG is on the OOG diver anyway, surely?

Rich
Correct Rich, the donor should be adept at dealing with an OOG diver. Hence team selection protocols.

Cheers Rich and everyone else who answered. I was having trouble seeing the flow of water over the necklaced reg argument. Hadn't thought about scootering.

See always something to learn or consider in this game.

Any other views?

Personally, I leave my regs as they are. I don't have a scooter, nor do I see myself using one seriously for any dives in the near future, even on a shotline into current I duck my head and it stops the primary freeflowing as well as any problems with the backup too. If I need to do any crazy dives with a scooter then I'll think about it, but for now performance of regs is v. important so I'd rather have it as good as possible.

Of course if you guys used Cyklons you could stick your head into just about any current and it would make piss all difference, but I think that's a row for another day...

Digs.

Personally I use a pair ox TX50's as my two regs, as I wanted to be able to switch to another regulator of the same type as it was one less thing to worry about in a problem situation.
The forthcoming Pony will have to have a different reg, as the TX50's were bought in '96 so things have moved on, although if I buy the deal from Stoney Cove, then it comes with a decent cold water Dacor reg anyway...
