Indeed. Not everyone wants to join the YD 'clique' - some just come here for reasoned discussion and useful information. I certainly didn't 'introduce' myself when I first started posting on YD - I find it all a bit 'cheesy', if truth be known... but each to their own.

I'd agree with Zak, actually - I thought Connor's comment was quite amusing! Certainly I didn't see it as a dig at Nina and I'm sure it wasn't meant that way - more an amusing reflection on the attitude of DIR divers to equipment colour choice. It's a bit like the old line about the Ford Model T being available in 'any colour as long as it's black'...

Having got the advert phase/issue out of the way -- I was highly impressed at how well "Dress for Success" is actually laid out. And how much simplicity it brings to often confused or misinterpreted 'DIR' concepts.

Being the sceptic, I admittedly stayed away from the name for a while but its just because of cultural differences I guess. And a few things in it might have changed in practice... but I'd highly recommend this as essential reading material particularly to learning DIR divers.

Indeed, how many colours can one use when making a colour book of DIR gear ;-) Still, not being black and white is rather nice and I like the descriptive photos of tying knots etc...

Incidentally, Nina might not have posted to YD before but (a) this is primarily about a GUE-supplied publication that relates 1-to-1 with DIR and (b) if it were not for the original SC/UE efforts to promote DIR diving and equipment in the UK, I doubt it'd be such a popular topic now.

(c) Also as my partner in life I encouraged her to start posting here and no..

I personally didn't jump on the DIR bandwagon in its rising days to make an extra buck nor am adverting here or using list messages to sell my products

(d) I'm also aware she only had a very limited number of copies of these at the moment anyway... Though more is to come..

Nina, no offence intended, welcome to YD. Simply a somewhat obvious bit of Friday afternoon Banter from me.

As for the welcome v advert debate, its in the DIR forum and Ands the mod.

IMO only, the book should have been reviewed a little more thouroughly by GUE prior to putting their name to this publication and selling it from GUE HQ as discussed on quest!

There are a few points and photo's that are clearly "Not" DIR; which has, will and can cause confusion for people interested or new to DIR.

It is however a good read and helps paint the picture but the attention to detail could have been better IMO!
