Stage rigging

A couple of stage questions for you kind DIR folk, for someone setting up a stage rig and wanting to future proof it for when I get sucked into the darkside

Is there a recommended hose length for the stage reg?

Also if diving to 30 meters and taking only one stage for deco would the gas of choice be 50% or 100%?

Thanks for any help

Neil

I'll stand correcting here but I believe the hose length is 1m (GI3 says "octopus length).

Tell me if I'm wrong but I nicked this from our own Bob Coopers excellent site. http://www.tue.org.uk/index.htm

Edited, corrected by Bob C, thanks.

I actually use a 1.5 meter hose as can't stand the way a 1 meter hose resticts movement around my neck. Downside is I have to use 3 Rubber bands to secure it due to the extra length.

Deco gas would be 50%.

there's some very useful info on this site, but some of it is out of date - I referred to a couple of items on there before now, and then got "corrected" by my peers

It's not my site. They just asked me if they could use an article I wrote some time ago.

Regarding the deco gas, I would say that if you are diving to 30m, you don't need a deco gas and if you do use one it would be 100%. This is quite common in some Florida caves where intermediate stops are a little difficult due to the cave profile.

For UK diving, why not fill the stage with backgas and dive it like that?

That way you will get used to carrying a full and empty stage, stowing a reg and it'll save you some money on gas!

Bob

Agree with Bob the best deco gas for a 30m ocean (eg short BT) dive is 32% backgas. No need for the hassle of an extra bottle.

Correct hose length for a deco bottle is 40 inches.

Fraser.

Fraser, as you're currently in exile in the colonies, you're forgiven for using imperial units but can the rest of us please stop using this antiquated system.

40 inches = 1 metre (approx.)
