Long hose / single tank

Hello to all you darksiders...

I was thinking of going the long hose route for single tank use and I notice that on the Underwater Explorers site the long hose rig for single tank includes a 1.5m hose rather than 2m for twins. Why is this? Doesn't the hose follow the same route?

Hi

If you have a canister light then I would use the 7ft hose. If you have no canister light and using a single cylinder then I use the 5ft hose. It goes under the arm in a neater way, and you don't need all that hose for the type of diving you will be doing.

Hey Lazlo,

I dive a single rig (though maybe not for much longer eh Phill ) and use a 7' hose. As And says it would probably be a bit more neat and appropriate to use the 5' hose but I was being cheap and only buying one hose.

With regards to the way to run a 7' hose without a canister light there seem to be two thoughts:

1 - Run it down the wing then up across your chest around neck etc, tuck excess hose into waistband.
2 - Run it down along the wing then across the waist, tuck under the knife webbing then up and around the neck etc.

I use the latter method now as I found the excess hose would pull out at times when using the former.

Hope it helps

Fair enough - thanks for the info - it did confuse me.

Sounds like under the arm 5 ft is the way to go.

If you can get a dive with people with both give it a try. When we did fundies one of us had a 5ft long hose while I had the 7ft. It was noticable that the longer long hose ( ) gave you more room to move around while doing skills and drills and felt more comfortable.

Tucking it into the wasteband took a little getting used to, but it's not so bad after a while.

Personally I'd suggest that you use a 7' hose from day 1. The 5' hose is just a bit too short. The hose doesn't route cleanly, and doesn't give you enough hose to manouver properly.

If you've not got a primary lamp, then put a knife/pocket on the right hip to hold the hose.

Quite a few people in my club use a 5' hose on a single rig, and it looks simple and easy to route.

It's what I was going to get when I bought my wing and changed to a long hose, but my LDS only had 7' hoses in stock so that's what I got. I dont have a cannister light (yet!) or a knife to tuck it under, so I tuck the excess under the harness. I find the extra length is easy to manage, and it's there if I ever need it.

So, I'd say go for the 7' - if nothing else it'll give you an excuse to get a Salvo

IMHO wrong

The most important bit of kit in UK diving is a decent torch. Sell your left kidney and get a canister torch off Mr Niknacks and use the 7ft hose

What he said.

Use a knife or shears to route the 7ft hose in the mean time.

Or buy a decent torch Thanks Mark

Does that help ?

Will a Green Force F2 battery pack do the job?

Only had to sell my left testicle for that one

So, who going to offer me a decent price on Apeks 200 1st stage and ATX 50 second stages?
