Misunderstanding

Hi All,

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I never wanted to say that any of those divers should do a GUE course, buy DIR equipment, etc... this idea is so "non-sense" that I never thought you would make such confusion. My fault. I should have made myself clearer.

I just wanted to share something that made me very sad, both as Brazilian and as a diver. I posted this in DIR forum because we are people that aim for the best standards, less risk and enjoyable diving. This is the complete opposite that we do (both motivation and practices). And sometimes looking at the opposite is good for opening our minds.

As for the social and economic part of the problem: The people from my country have very serious problems to face. Corruption, education, health and others. We deal with them seriously and the best way we can. Unfortunately we are not in the level that we should be, but I can say we are better now than we were in the past. I can say that I am very proud of it. Brazil is a mature democracy and we are dealing with our problems as one. But this is no forum for political discussion. My point was just to create a moment of reflexion as divers. We should know what is going on around us, understand that in our perspective and move on.

I hope I contributed for that.

Cheers

I am sure a mod will be along to ensure fair play here but it's statements like this which can be viewed as antagonistic regardless of which forum they appear.

To be fair, he's not saying that DIR are the only group that aim for that.

Hi Simon
Granted, he did not explicitly say that, I know, but the implication was certainly there....

The implication being "I would have posted in the general forum if I thought people generally aim for the best standards etc...."

I have re-read it and can read it no other way. It is this arrogant attitude which has given DIR a bad name in the past and is why YD with its generally sensible and constructive moderation, has taken great strides in dispelling the arrogance.

Let's all cut the bloke some slack here guys. He posted some information about diving in another part of the world, about the risks some people endure, and that it's sad that these people have to operate in an envirnoment so completely at odds with at least one philosophy of diving, and all we've done is have a go a go at him.

Considering his first language isn't English, I think he did a far better job than I could ever have managed in ANY other language.

He gets MY vote for effort!

BTW, I'm not even close to DIR, and take no offence from what he's said.

Mal - give Daniel a break! I doubt your semantics would stand up to scrutiny in a foreign language

Daniel - you'll have to forgive the restless natives over here! They all like a good argument

Argh.. I never found a forum so difficult to post!

At least we are not discussing the lobster divers issue anymore... it looks like I made my point.

Just for the record, there are good and bad divers everywhere (DIR and non-DIR). I don't think anybody can say that he or she is a better diver because embraces a configuration. So why don't whe stop discussing this useless things and we all go underwater? (using DIR configuration, inspiration rebreathers, BCs, force fins, etc... etc... etc..., I don't care about equipment, as long we are underwater, safe and having fun, that's what counts!!! )

Cheers
