Question Is it DIR?

Having seen a friends new seac sub icaro wing, I bought one my self. I was loooking at this or the halcyon eclipse, with travelling in mind. The halcyons massive price tag put me off a bit despite being a DIR wing. This got me wondering, is the icaro a DIR style wing, would it be accepted by a DIR diver, as at current I am not one, but am thinking about learning the DIR way in the future.

The only buckle is the chest stap, but if this were to break, there would be very little effect, the wing also contains one, fairly marginal attempt at a bungee apart from that I can't see a big difference with this and a labelled DIR wing, is there something I have missed? Would this be enough lift at 35lbs to do a DIR course with twin 10's (steel) as I know DIR believe in only having the required volume of lift and no more.

Bungee'd wing
Double Bladder
No Crotch Strap
And it's not a single piece harness

It looks way too complex. DIR kit is simple, solid, stuff, no plastic clips etc.

You might think DIR kit is expensive, but it lasts! a single piece harness costs less than £20 to replace if ever it wears out. This Seac Wing and any normal BC will need replacing when straps wear. Also think about whether or not you may want to use twins in the future, if so if you go the DIR route your backplate and harness will stay with you, and you'll be used to where everything is clipped off etc. Muscle memory is a good thing

If you are worried about weight and cost, why not go for an ali BP, harness for £130 (?) from Knackers and a Diver rite Classic wing for £130 from Go dive. What I have!!
More knowledgeable than me will no doubt jump in, but a single piece harness is required for DIR.
However, for more info look here http://www.direxplorers.com/new-dir-...late-wing.html

Son, you're going to have to make up your mind about growing up and becoming aircrew. You can't do both.

The aircraft limits are only there in case there is another flight by that particular aircraft. If subsequent flights do not appear likely, there are no limits.

Don't forget that DIR Zone and Agir-Brokk also do single tank wings that are cheaper than the equivalent Halcyon.

The question I believe was "Is this DIR". No. It isn't

hope this helps

I have the DIRZone 15L single and the 20L twin wings and they are lovely bits of kit. The Cordura stuff that the outer shell is made from feels like it would stop bullets and still be up for the dive. Certainly happy to squeeze through rusty wrecks in it. The Agir stuff looks nice too, but not as rugged feeling - not sure I'd have quite the same confidence in it.

The Halcyon stuff - seems OK but you're paying a lot for the name. The new Evolve might be worth looking at but the older wings have been bettered and under cut IMO.

I currently dive an Explorer 40lb wing, but Reikimaster has an Evolve waiting for me for when I get back from Amsterdam. The general feeback for these has been good, but it'll be April before I get to check it out myself

I don't suppose your mate wants a 40lb Explorer to replace the one he lost?
