I like some Ideas put forward by the DIR school of thought however as already posted it does not leave very much up to personal choice.
In the real world we are all different shapes and sizes so Halcyon wings might not suit. I have an twin bladder OMS and it is regaded as Non-DIR as it has bungee, a dual bladder and it is Red (shock Horror!) However, I find it suits my needs very well. It is bullet- proof and has enough lift to raise the heaviest of divers without any problem and most of all trust it to work when I need it to!

Actually that's entirely correct - the man you're thinking of is Jarrod Jablonski who is, as you correctly state, the head of both organisations. This, of course, is entirely coincidental and I'm sure Jarrod has never used his position within GUE to increase Halcyon kit sales... never, ever... honestly!

Of course Halcyon justify this conflict of interest by stating that they work closely with GUE to develop kit that's appropriate for the sort of diving that GUE advocates which, in effect, is true. You've got to remember that there was a time when DIR compliant kit was very difficult to come by as much of the kit used by the WKPP was very much 'home made' in the early days. Halcyon rose out of this to service the needs of the increasing number of DIR divers who were disatisfied with the standard of kit available from other manufacturers.

These days, of course, Halcyon's monopoly on the market has been broken with several manufacturers vying for a slice of the DIR market share. Just look at brands like DIRZone, Salvo and AGIR Brokk - they're all taking full commercial advantage of the success of DIR globally which is no bad thing since it promotes healthy competition...

And for the record - you do not have to use Halcyon kit to be DIR. Anyone who tells you this is either a) closely associated with Halcyon or b) talking out of their arse (or both! lol)...

It would be fair to point out that Mr Jablonski is the head honcho of GUE and Halcyon, but that GUE is just one flavour of DIR.

From memory isn't the Apeks wing a bit squatter and wider than the other wings? From similar wings I've used this isn't as comfortable as the longer wings with twin 12's or 7's. Are the prices you give inclusive of backplates?

OMS's plain wings are very good. Nice and simple. Dive Rite and Oxycheq also do very good wings that are acceptabe too and worth considering.

Yeah the price's i posted are what i have found on the net so far.

These include SS Bp / 1 piece Harness / Wing.

Did look at the OMS 60lb wing without bungies, Which sound good. Diverswarehouse said they are due in about March sometime.
Thats the only place i could find that are selling them unless anyone knows anywhere else.

Its OK I forgive you

I baught my OMS DIR dive rig at the dive show and then spent ages standing in the Halcyon camp wearing it

Mind you they had the last laugh when Andyp & I both walked away with two Pathfinder reels and two 10W Halcyon torches
