DIR BC question

Ok very new to DIR - just moved over to OZ - firslty looking at the Halcyon range which looks great. But the guys are tellling me the 30lb lift is ample for single/twins. I was aiming for an Aly Backplate not SS so I could use single Steel tank for now - not sure I want to use the twin Aly tanks though in the future.

Any guidance much appreciated - the oz dollar dont go far in buying this kit so gotta get this right.

I would have thought that 30lbs will be fine for single Ally and single steel (don't know about twin ally, probably fine), but that if you want to go with twin steel 12 ltrs and an (ally) stage than a 40lb wing would be better. That said, a 40lb wing would be serious overkill on a single ally cylinder (and steel as well).

If it were me, I would go for a single 30lbs wing and then make the choice about which wing if and when you may want to move to a twin set - you can always try it out and if not sell it on ebay or keep it as a spare!

Cheers ahar - just got to get out the weight belt and huge lift mind set. My thoughts were to take the 30lb Halcyon and Aly backplate with my steel tank for now See how things ago.

Something else to notice is that Single tank wings and Double tank wings are different shapes and Not interchangeable. (as far as the halcyon kit goes)

I was under the impression it was - I grabbed the Halcyon price guide which gives you the option of an alternative backplate for twins or singles ?

Hi Nixsie

The backplate and harness is the same whether your diving a single or twins - the only choice would be ali or steel, just depends how much weight you want in the backplate. I use a steel backplate - takes some weight off the belt.

The difference is in the wing itself. I use an Eclipse 30lb for single steel cylinders up to 15lts with a pony, although with a 15+pony I dont think it gives quite as much lift on the surface as I would like. For twins you'd need a different wing with 40lbs+, depending on what cylinders your using. I would'nt like to try diving twins with only 30lbs. The twin wings are also wider so can't be used with singles, and vice versa.

Are you in Oz now or still in Wales? If you're still over here you could take a look at my wing if you'd like (I'm pretty busy at the moment with uni, but I'm sure we could sort something out in a few weeks if thats not too late)

J.D much appreciated for the offer and avice - although still in OZ, would of jumped at the chance. Hmm looks like I have to get a sinlge 30lb lift wing then to go with 15ltr Steel tank probably Ali backplate. Allows me to travel also - although may think I wil have to use extra weight.

Which means if and when i get round to twins gonna have to buy a new wind ......

Ok then I guess the question should now be - what is recommended for a 15ltr steel tank with semi dry. Diving OZ, UK so travelling required - guess the twins is a separate kit then. I am guessing 20lb min but should look at around 40ish ? But which system Halycon, Agir ......arrhh decisions
