Question Back up Torches

I,m looking at getting a couple of good back up torches, that will need to double as holiday primary and back ups. So they need to be bright, light and tough, as well as use dissposable batteries. Ideas so far are: Dive Rite Arduro-XL LED, Heser LED, Halcyon Scout LED, Photon Torpedo LED and Tektite Expedition LS4. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience of these torches or other suitable ones.

I use a photon torpedo with a halogen bulb and am pretty happy with it. Only really used it in anger once (while training), but it did the business and lit up the lower lorry deck on the Zenobia well

Heser LED is great IMO - it will happily double as a holiday "primary" torch, with sufficient penetration even with loads of ambient light.

For the second back up - stick to a standard xenon scout or photon

Then you have a good mix of led and xenon

what he said.

If I was buying now I'd be very tempted by those Heser thingies though...

Mini Q40

Might not be cool but it penetrates the gloom well. Nearly as good as a 21W Salvo on our p*** taking test at Scapa last year.

You sacrifice brightness for width of beam, but Caroline used one as her primary on the Maine last week when the Greenforce failed to behave again and it was ok.

I have a Heser - its absolutely outstanding. Very well made - totally bombproof and similar in brightness to a 10w HID. Someone burn tested one recently for 42 hours! Horribly expensive - but the best always is. Could quite easily be used as a primary light for rec diving

Another vote for the Heser here - the thing's a mini-lightsaber!

C'mon, you can hardly look at buying a Heser and then talk about saving money! The most ridiculously priced torch in the market?
