Just out of interest (and if its a complicated / controversial answer please just forget I asked), why would you clip off the long hose when you've potentially got a leaking reg / manifold somewhere? I've always found just letting it go it'll happily drape around the neck without wasting time clipping it off. While it is a drill, would DIR-types still do that in a real situation?

Yes. With the right post turned off (because of a unfixable failure) there is no point in having the long hose accessible, so no benefit in not having it clipped off.

It may flap around a little if not clipped off, and as there aren't any downsides to clipping it off why wouldn't you?

I was thinking of the time taken to do it while sorting out the leak.

Reading it again, it seems to be taken as a break in the drill, and if that's at the end then of course at that point its sort of the "tidying up" thing so not a problem there.

I'm thinking along slightly different lines, where the shutdown of the right post might not stop the leak, in which case you'd then try the left post, ie you aren't 100% sure where the leak is coming from. But like I just noticed above, reading it again seems to show that GUE don't cover that in the drill. Actually, it looks like they always assume you know where the leak is coming from, since the isolator isn't closed until halfway through the drill?

Its fine anyway, that answered my question so all I wanted to know

David

The key skill elements are shown very well (pre updates ) on the 5th D DVD's. 5thD-X DVD's - training@5thd-x.com

Fabulous DVD which any DIR curious person should buy IMHO.

I should however point out that there's a lot more to be gained from doing Fundies than just the S drills, Valve drills etc.

If you are curious as to what it's all about then why not come along to the Stoney Gig on the 18th / 19th November ?

The closest you'll get are the DVD's that Andrew Georgitsis produces. He's the ex GUE Training Director and without a doubt one of the finest DIR divers and instructors around. Link: https://5thdx.purehost.com/store/
Or for a real - life introduction - come along to the annual DIR day at Stoney in two weekends time where some of the UK Instructors will be doing Introduction to DIR workshops. Details are in the DIR forum on this site. HTH

Beat me to it Phill!
