well out of the two i have the Agir Brokk 21w as the main torch and a Halcyon 10w for my backup and neither has really screwed up i had a small problem with the Halcyon that UE in Portland sorted the same day

Both are as good as each other but i do like the Halcyon kit and at the end of the day you pay for what you get. buy cheap pay twice !!

So in the end the balance was struck that the cheaper torch was actually better....for me.
To be fair to Halcyon, their 'Explorer' range of lights that were introduced last year to replace the popular Helios range feature a similar leak-proof lid design as the Salvos. This from the Halcyon website...

"When Halcyon set out to improve upon its Helios designs, we had identified key areas that we saw lacking in canister lights across the board. We started with a truly leak-proof lid that could isolate the battery compartment in case of cord damage or the light head in case of canister flood. Design and testing began over a year ago, with many prototypes developed and refined over the course of testing. We were not going to release a design that was simply leak-resistant: no wiring from the light cord could enter the battery compartment. The Explorer's lid isolates the cord wiring; O-ring protected, gold-plated banana plugs extend through the bottom of the lid to connect to the top of the Explorer battery pack. In testing, we've cut the light head off of an Explorer and then tested the light to 300' with the unsealed cord and found that no water was able to pass into the lid."

Have to say that when I was looking the Halcyon wasn't "leakproof" or at least I was never shown that by my LDS.

I don't believe that the Salvo "leakproof" solution is as attractive as the Halcyon Explorer solution and it's possible (although this is speculation) that it might not be as robust as the Explorer however, I don't believe the Explorer solution to be worth £215 more.

If I'm looking to buy a primary and two backups then I can kit myself up with two Photon Torpedos and a 21W 9A Salvo or I can take an 18W 9A Explorer and two Scouts. If I take the Salvo I have a more powerful torch with identical burntimes and £218 spare to spend on going diving1.

And when you believe that the difference in quality doesn't equate to the difference in price then I'm afraid the cheaper option will win every time.

The actual difference is £115 not £215.
