What makes it "DIR"?

I've just bought a pair of trauma shears by Dive Rite, mostly to get the sheath as the scissors themselves are dead cheap elsewhere.

The sheath, which is descibed as "DIR Sheath" does not have any kind of retaining device to secure the shears whilst stowed.

Can anyone explain the reasoning behind having no method of securing the shears and what makes this "DIR"

I'm not sure what a "DIR sheath" is either.

My shears go inside my wetnotes, in a pocket. I personally wouldn't put them on my waistband.

Hope that helps,

Rich

Hmmm, i'm not sure either - sounds like marketing. My shears are clipped off in my right hand pocket.

Surely a DIR sheath is a black pee-valve catheter?

Dive Rite do an alternatve version with red handles that has a webbing sheath with a 2" belt loop and a plastic clip to attach to a D ring. It also has a velcro strap to hold the shears in place - all for £1 RRP less.

It would therefore seem to be the case that the DIR-ness relates to no clips or loops and black in colour.....

Ah, so it's a case of "less is more" or actually "less costs more".

We'll just have to see how long it is before the scissors fall out and need replacing before the rivet rusts through Either that or I'll sew a loop on myself!

Ah ha - just figured it out. The DIR element comes from how you use it, not the item itself. Sooooo, provided you are wearing black, access the shears over your right shoulder, use your left hand for cutting and the right hand for stroking your stainless D Ring collection, all is DIR. The red ones are just for cutting etc - not really worth it
