It is I'm afraid. Spend a bit of time playing with the harness to get a good fit.

I have a perfect fit with my Seaquest Diva, which techies will dis. It has a wing on the back, is stable and comfortable and I would not change it for the world. Same BCD for 8 years and 600+ dives. Also same regs, fins and torch.

Unlike some, I am happy with my kit and set up. Not having a pop, but just horrified at the amount some people spend and waste. And shock horror, I dive a single.

I'm not cut out for technical diving but read the threads to pick up hits and tips.

I'm sure you're BCDs a great fit, I was thinking more of the fat blokes you see with their cylinder banging against the back of their knees.

Personally I think you've got the right attitude to all this, Vonny. Diving is all about having fun and providing your kit is safe, you feel comfortable in it and it does what it's designed to do then no one can knock it. Although I'll admit that I am a self-confessed backplate and wing junkie, there's nothing wrong with diving in a BCD - after all, it's the chosen kit configuration for 99% of the world's divers! I personally just find a wing and backplate configuration a lot more comfortable to dive in. It doesn't make my kit *better* than yours - just different. Each to their own, as they say!

Your torch is due for a change then, (couldn't resist)

It's a shame that more people don't get taught in a plate & wing, then as their diving progresses (for those who go extended range etc) they don't have to swap out expensive BCD's for wing systems, when a single wing would be fine for them and then just add a doubles wing when they need to. Money actually SAVED that way,I can prove it's cheaper and often do.

As do more than 96% of all divers.

It's all Technical IMHO, we weren't designed to breathe underwater. So we need technology. It's just for some people it's a bit more technical than others.

I can't remember the big word (maybe I never knew it to start with) but that strikes me as ................ wrong? Surely the core of DIR is compliance to "the system" where an open mind is not required? I don't suppose anyone would have an open mind about my FFM?

Sorry, I'm feeling a bit peevish after spending all afternoon fettling kit ready for my first dive for a year tomorrow only to have to rush out to get new batteries for my dive computer (I should have seen that coming) and then have my battery charger for my main dive light cease to function.

Oh well, I'll have a relaxing lie down in the dark for ½ an hour and then surface again much refreshed!

I just hope my Niterider "other dive torch" functions properly.

Finless is the word Oxymoron ?

I think Bardo meant turn up prepared to listen and then make your mind up after you have the facts presented to you. Unlike some people who have turned up and tried to convert the Instructor

Enjoy your dive
